Staff Folders not Student Folders

The Student folder has been renamed: Look for the "Staff" folder. All DJ's are staff. You should have a folder once you have been trained and filled out a staff application.

Staff folders are for audio elements that you are using for your show or other projects. Do not store your old shows in the staff folders. They are for temporary storage only. If the hard drive crashes everything will be lost. So transfer any file that you care about on to a CD or your home computer.

Don't Forget to Return the Swipe Card!

Recently several DJ's were locked out of the station because of other DJ's failing to return the access card to UP. That meant that shows didn't go on the air.

This is not acceptable. Don't forget to return the card after you finish your show. Failure to return the card in a timely manner will result in loss of card privileges and showtime.

Promo Push: SGA Elections & Applications!

Play SGA election promos as much as possible!

OWWR is promoting the upcoming SGA elections. Here's what to do:
  1. Play the SGA election/application promo as often as possible.
  2. Try to talk about the importance of a strong SGA.
  3. Urge students to run for office.
  4. Explain how students can run for office: how to get and submit applications, where to find a copy of the constitution, etc.
Follow this link to Catalyst Radio News for more information.

2.0 or No Show.

If you have at least a 2.0 average you are eligible to host a radio show on OWWR.

If your average falls below 2.0 you will be on "Academic Probation" and you will lose your show until you improve your average.

This is the same SUNY Old Westbury policy that applies to participating in all student committees and athletics (see p.45 of the catalog.) So keep your average up!

If you are having difficulties and need help, please stop by and see Radio Director Andrew Mattson at the station.

Play Event Promos!

Every break must include at least two event promos. Promoting campus events is an important part of our service to the campus community.

Do not use the word "commercials" to introduce a station break.

Our station does not play commercials we play event promos, public service announcements and station identification liners.

Just say "We are going to take a break" or "[show name] will be right back on OWWR after this break"

Standard break format must include 4 elements:
  • event promo
  • Public Service Announcement (PSA)
  • station identification liner
  • event promo or station/show promo

Remember to check the date on the event promos. Play promos for events that are in the near future more often than later events.
